Motown Writers Meetup Group Pages

Motown Writer's Network was created in May of 2000. Its initial goal was to just connect Metro Detroit writers on the Internet. Sylvia Hubbard, the site's coordinator and founder, searched diligently to find the writer's that were in the Metro Detroit Area to let them know about the site. Mrs. Hubbard also created a site where writers in the area could find out about different places, bookstores, libraries and other sites around the city to help them promote their work.

In 2001, MWN took on a new challenge by providing education of marketing tools on the web. In the newsletters sent out to members through the e-mail system and on the site, Mrs. Hubbard always looked for articles and other ways for writer's to promote and marketed themselves. It was also in this year that MWN finally had a mission statement (see above) and that Mrs. Hubbard began to lecture around the city in various writing groups promoting the site more and educating writers about the Internet marketing possibilities. In addition to this, MWN not only became an informational site for just Metro Detroit writers, but for any writer born and raised in Michigan.

Mrs. Hubbard has dedicated her time and personal life to the mission statement of Motown Writer's Network. With her dedication to this, Motown Writer's hopes to become a portal or a doorway for writer's in Michigan. MWN wants to assist writers in finding and connecting to other information that could be on the Internet or in their community. We hope to help authors or soon to become authors find new marketing opportunities. Lastly, we will educate writers on the latest and newest technology that can assist writers in their quest to fulfill their dreams.

In 2004, Ms. Hubbard connected with two local writing groups to create The Essence of Motown Writers Conference. Being held as the only event in the city of Detroit of its kind, it will be geared to assisting writers in writing, publishing, and marketing their work.

Motown Writers Network other ventures include a Yahoo Online Discussion Group called The Detroit Writers Galore, a small press publishing company called, Hub Books Publishing, local promotional club called, The Motown Promo Writers, a touring educational series of workshops called, The Write Steps 101, and also Author's Assistant.
