SiD desires to explore unique ways of creating and presenting theater in a city -- that in our opinion -- needs art now more than ever. "Antony and Cleopatra" is the first expression of that desire -- theater that is not married to the traditional idea of doing a play in a theater. Instead, immersive performance art that is an extension of the venue in which it inhabits. In this case, it is a recycling center and the home of the original Lincoln Motor Co., Recycle Here.

We are combining Detroit's rich heritage with contemporary art and classic literature. We are collaborating with visual artists. We are entertaining Shakespeare lovers and attempting to woo potential theater goers by performing in places where they live, work and play. Detroiters go to Recycle Here to recycle materials in an effort to preserve the city and earth -- they go there so that the materials they bring can be reimagined into something new. It is the perfect place for SiD to reimagine the classic story of "Antony and Cleopatra."

Here are the details:

Showtimes are March 15, 21 and 22 at 7 p.m. with one matinee on March 16 at 2 p.m. There is a strongly suggested donation of $10 for non-Community Sponsors. Students with I.D. (under 25 and currently enrolled in school) and seniors (65 and over) will be asked to donate $5. Seating is first come, first served for non-Community sponsors. What does a strongly suggested donation mean? Seating will be given to those who have given the $10 donation (or $5 for students and seniors) to help meet costs of the show.What is a Community Sponsor? These are members of the public who have donated funds in order to make "Antony and Cleopatra" a reality. They will receive a gift, reserved seating, their names in the playbill and receive a personal invite to our sponsor party on March 16 -- only Community Sponsors will be invited to this event. The show's director, Kyle Grant, is a graduate of the Liverpool Institute of Performing ArtsMany of the costumes and set pieces will be created from recycled materials directly from the facilityThere will be 10 actors in the show -- some with several roles. All of our actors are locally basedSiD is collaborating with several local visual artists to help create scenery for the showThe show is produced by Sam White with costumes by Cal Schwartz. The production staff also includes Bridget Dennis, the show's administrator, James Johnson and several other visual artists in the area.
