GO: Evening Stroll In Shire Oak Nature Reserve

  • Apr 9, 2014 · 7:00 PM

Yes, Evening Walks are Back!

We will not have much evening time daylight in early April so this will be a short walk of 2.5 miles (or 3 miles if it is still light enough)

Meet at the SHIRE OAK pub at the junction of the A452 and A461 at Shire Oak, which is 1 mile South of Brownhills. Postcode WS9 9DQ.

Our walk on this day will be a circular route around Shire Oak nature Reserve, which is gently undulating public access land and home to trees and birds and other creatures. We will enjoy eachothers company over a drink at dusk.

If there has been recent rain, bring suitable footwear for some residual puddles and mud, though it shouldnt be too bad.

Public transport to this venue includes the X35 Bus from Walsall Bus Station or the 56/936 buses from Birmingham Corporations St (by Law Courts). The 936 service becomes the 935A service during the evening

Do not be late please as we can't delay the start time of the walk, we need to be ready to leave at 7pm due to available daylight. If you are running late, please head to Shire Ridge (which is a road off the A461) WS9 9RL where you can meet us at around 19:10. There is a small car park and roadside parking there.

Hi, I would like to thank Paul for leading the very enjoyable walk near Brownhills on Wednesday. I also enjoyed the company of all present. So sorry that I was unable to stay for a drink in the Shire Oak, as I had to get back to Stourbridge.

Their number[masked] is dead, though the pub is open, so I will clear it with them when I arrive. The fallback is to use the latecomers parking postcoded above, and then go the Royal Oak afterwards

Am trying to sort buses out for this, am finding that while I can get there ok, buses finish early on way back. Would anybody be coming back near to Birmingham, Hagley Rd way etc?

    April 8, 2014

    • Paul W

I believe 935A buses between Brownhills and Birmingham run much later than when the walk finishes. Else if nobody offers to go via Hagley Rd, I could get you back to a regular bus stop near me.

I'm also interested in going from Worcester. Is anybody driving from there? Could we - three of us perhaps - share petrol?

    February 23, 2014

    • Paul W

Discuss options with the member below from Worcester perhaps?

      February 23, 2014

Hi Pippa, I don't drive so not going to be any help there I'm afraid

Not 100% sure owing to work & public transport. As I live in Worcester getting to Walsall is time consuming as it is and with the time constraints even more difficult
