Croft Ambrey & The Yatton Hills Walk
Herefordshire scenery at it's finest, and perhaps the finest walk in Middle England. We will begin on the Estate of Croft Castle where there is ample car parking (and usually toilets and a cafe, subject to being open over the Christmas Period).
We will ascend through the Fishpool Valley to the summit of Croft Ambrey, taking the Mortimer Trail westward over the ridge across the Yatton Hills, before completing a circular route back to the start. Much of the route is forested so will provide some protection against the prevailing elements.
The total route will be measured against time to ensure we return in daylight, possibly incorporating a pub stop if walk pace is sprightly. Bring refreshments for the walk and suitable winter walking clothing. Gloves and Hats if cold. No jeans or trainers. The total distance is likely to be around 8 miles
Well behaved dogs and U16s welcome under supervision. Expect a degree of seasonal wet ground and mud, or frozen ground depending on climatic conditions.
As with any outdoor activity, walking carries a certain level of inherent risk. Whilst we endeavour to avoid any unnecessary risks, participants are responsible for themselves and must take all reasonable precautions themselves to avoid injury or other problems.
Start: Croft Ambrey Car Park, Cock Gate, grid ref SO/460/655, for which nearest postocde would be HR6 0BL
Cost = £0
We will be walking on consecutive days and many members will be staying in nearby Hereford to socialize in the evenings and save travelling each day
The best days are here :-)
