Lake District Hill Walking for Easter (April 14-17, 2017)
Return trip to God's walking country..... We're based in a perfect central town location with plenty to do and see
We have reserved a number of places at Denton House in the lively town of Keswick for 3 nights FRI to MON for a large helping of scintillating scenery, wild walking, super socializing and some good pubs to while away the evenings.
The accommodation is a comfortable self catering independent hostel, centrally heated with a roughly equal number of male and female places. Access is controlled by doorcode which will be supplied on arrival (of the host).
The kitchens are communial for self catering.
This is sensibly priced accommodation in an awesome and convenient central location, offering a great group atmosphere
There is no need to book any holiday assuming you have the two public holidays free anyway, though we will have an early start on Friday morning.
Keswick is 12 miles west of M6 J40, so there are no long winding roads to conquer, it is a straightforward journey, subject to beating the bank holiday traffic. It is also a bus or taxi ride from Penrith Train Station.
There is plenty of parking at the accommodation, though it makes sense for us to share transport. Be prepared to walk each day, and to stay up reasonably late socializing and playing games whilst chilling out.
Duvets & bedding is provided. Bring towels, torches, and packed lunches
The address is: Denton House Penrith Rd, Keswick, CA12 4JW
Payment is by paypal or cheque to the host.
Options are almost unlimited, with different walking leaders and we will attempt some walk routes that have not been tried by our group before.
There is an intention to do at least 2 walks on Friday, 3 walks on Saturday and Sunday and 2 walks on Monday.... perhaps more.
To supplement our regular walk leaders, we will need some volunteers to lead or co-lead, especially for the lower level walks (since we usually find plenty of people game to lead up the mountains). We can provide walk routes.
We will aim to pre-determine meeting point(s) for everyone each day from which a variety of walks are possible, so that there is no confusion over the start location.
The planned walks itinerary will be updated via this link as details are decided. If you are attending, please RSVP to this link too! This will also explain the meeting point on Friday lunchtime.
Please make payment by paypal to [masked] or by cheque to me at an event. The price is £66 per person including breakfasts, although there is a £5 discount available for those who pay before September 30th, 2016.
Payment is required within 10 days of your RSVP, if for any reason you do not make payment at the time
ARRIVAL & MEETING ON FRIDAY
The proposal on the Friday is to arrive for 11:45 (8.30 am start from the Midlands) permitting time for a decent walk that day. Anyone who arrives later to dodge the walk but arrives at the accommodation before the walkers have returned is expected to take a top bunk if one is available.
ROOM ALLOCATION AT DENTON HOUSE
This will be available at reception on arrival of the host.
There are separate male & female rooms, with separate bunk beds. We can normally accept room share requests to be with one other person (but not larger groups unfortunately). This approach is aimed at helping couples/pairs, and preventing larger sub-groups from forming and dominating dormitories.
Please note that we are not offering an option to stay at alternative accommodation for this event until such time as Denton House (the reserved accommodation) is full.
Provisions for Breakfasts and Beverages will be delivered by Tesco or Asda, and guests will be able to prepare and eat breakfasts between 6:30 and 9:15 each morning.
All fridge space is communal, so please don't expect to be able to store personal shopping in the communal area throughout the weekend, as it is likely to be consumed. However freezer space may be used for personal items, since the communal shopping will not need to include frozen food.
Self catering for some other meals is likely to be cheaper than eating out, though ingredients or ready meals are best purchased when required rather than in advance for the reasons above.
Please keep any personal supplies of alcoholic drinks in your car or in your room, and do not leave alcoholic drinks in the kitchen or lounge area. If everyone brings just 1 bottle or can per day, that would be well over 250 items. Everyone please appreciate that we cannot let this many items clutter our main living areas.
Nearest pub to our accommodation - Twa Dogs, Penrith Road CA12 4JU, and best Keswick pub for food and proper ale - Dog & Gun - Lake Road CA12 5BT
