♫ St Patricks Day Parade ♫
Once again, GO:Heart of England will be in town taking in the atmosphere of everything any shade of green and tasting of whiskey or guinness or irish coffee (or real ale).
We are almost famed for our great St Patrick's Day entertainment so hey don't make the mistake of going with anyone else!
In common with previous years, our meeting point will be the ANCHOR INN at the junction of Rea Street and Bradford Street, for lunchtime drinks, and from where we are very handily placed to nip out and see the parade pass (within only 100 yards).
♫ General Itinerary ♫
Please arrive between 11:30 and 12:00. This arrival time will be important in order ensure this is an inclusive rather than fragmented social occasion, and to ensure that you don't miss the important bit.
Please, we suggest, avoid walking down Digbeth High Street, as it is virtually impossible! It is important to arrive before 12:15 at the extreme latest in order to find us. This is the time after which there will be a major commotion, and phone contact with the host is likely to become unavailable. Once the parade is over, those who are there will help decide the plans for afterwards.
We recommend that everyone has a good breakfast beforehand to remove the requirement of a full midday meal. The area is not noted for doing serene Sunday lunches in the midst of the festivities. Most of the Arcadian and Chinatown are virtually at a standstill throughout the middle of the day.
Here's to the Craic!
After the parade, we may return to the Anchor, or we may have a surprise venue in store. And later on, we will scour the streets for the sound of some live music! This will be at around 3.30 to 4 pm, for those still able to stay out.
♫ Meet Point Address ♫
Anchor Inn, 308 Bradford Street, Birmingham, West Midlands B5 6ET (located at the junction of Rea Street). This pub has several rooms, check all of them, but we will probably be round the back of the pub.
To reach this venue without MAJOR delays due to the crowds along Digbeth, leave Birmingham Centre on foot via Hurst Street/Pershore Street, approaching the Anchor Inn from Bradford Street. We will view the Parade from Rea Street (by the coach station)
It is best not to cross over to the other side of Digbeth High Street by the Dubliner Pub and the Custard Factory etc, as you will be stranded over there! And don't to drive anywhere around Digbeth, since the area will be closed to traffic, and Satnav's will not know the viable alternatives.
♫ The Parade runs between 12:00 and 13:00 so no point in arriving late ♫
Map of Parade Route:
♫ Lateness Won't Work ♫.
We had a few comments last year from people saying they will be "late", meaning they will arrive late afternoon. I don't think these people quite understood. The St Patrick's Day parade was over, finished, closed, completed, departed.... and there was no point in making the journey.
We're only advising people against this to avoid wasting your day. Meeting start times at all our events are set for a good reason, and are a critical part of the event description, and should be observed within reason (e.g. with allowance for your nearest train/bus, etc). Arriving several hours afterwards does not constitute being late, it constitutes a "no show" or potentially a separate event. For some reason we don't seem to find anyone arriving several hours early and leaving earlier, why can this be? :-)... Again this is just a polite note to avoid disappointment, and/or a fragmented social occasion. See you all there!
We want everyone to have a great day out! :-)
The best days are here :-)
