Perspectives Photo Walk

We had a rough start to this meetup, what with the snow storm in November putting a damper on our first walk. So, hopefully our second meetup will go a bit better. This photo-walk will have the theme of Perspectives. You can get some great shots by placing your camera on the ground, or on the park bench, and shooting straight out or up. What sort of shots can you get by shooting through the rails around a patio, or using a reflection in the window?

Perspectives is all about taking an image from someplace other than where our eyes are usually looking. Get down low, up high, inside or outside. Wherever you shoot from, just do it from someplace unusual.

Sunset is at 4:56 so we'll have some good light. I want to do it downtown again because this is convenient to places where we can step inside to warm up if needed. We'll start at the corner of Welton and the 16th Street Mall and work our way towards Market. I'll put out some additional information as we get closer, and feel free to add suggestions to improve this walk. If anyone wants to, we'll find a place for dinner or coffee afterwards.

I will try to plan a Sunday walk in February for those that can't make a Saturday walk.

Hello Photographers! Thanks to everyone who made it out on Saturday for our first photo walk of 2013! I apologize I didn't send this out sooner or upload any of my own pics. I have lost my Internet connection at home and had to wait till I went back to work today. The images you all have put up so far are wonderful. I can't wait till the next walk. I'll try for something a little warmer. :)

Don't forget to dress really warm because it's really cold out there! And bring extra batteries to keep in your pockets. The run out quickly in this type of cold but, can be revived in a warm pocket. If you're running late call me to find out where we are. [masked]-4605. :-)

I prefer the 20th if that's possible, and Sundays are always better days for me. If it's super cold it doesn't make for an enjoyable experience. If we are only shooting for an hour I could probably tolerate it. But trust me I've been on shoots before in the cold at night. It's just harder to find or want to find and set up a shot. I want to have fun, be reasonably comfortable, and be outside and explore 'til there's no more light. I would love to participate when I can but I don't feel obligated to endure something that won't be pleasurable. So that's where I stand with that. Whatever decision that is made, I'm cool with it all. :)

Hi Elisa, Thanks for the comments. I fully understand you point and realize that some people aren't comfortable in the type of weather coming up this weekend. So, I did go ahead and plan a second meetup on the 20th with the same theme for those that prefer that date. And I'll still try to plan a Sunday in February for another walk. Hope to see you at one of those. :)

Brett. Are going to post the 12th as a new Meetup?

    January 10, 2013

    • Bret G.

Hi Don. No, I'll keep it as an existing Meetup. Unless there's something I'm missing and I need to do that?

Hello Everyone! It looks like we've got six votes to change to the 20th and two to keep the walk on the 12th. So, I'm going to do something completely unprecedented. I'm going to go out on both days. Of course, this group hasn't really been here long enough for anything unprecedented but, there you are. I really still want to go out this weekend, and there have been a few more additions to the roster for this weekend. So, some people do want to go out.

For those of you who would rather go on the 20th, I'll be adding that in the next few minutes. The theme will be the same and you're welcome to come to both walks. I say, the more shooting the better. :) In either case, please keep your RSVP up to date so I have a good idea of how many to expect at each one. Thanks!

I'll be there on the 12th!

OK. The second date is scheduled. I've also changed the location to better reflect where we will actually meet. It's still on the 16th Street Mall at the corner of Welton and 16th but, I've now labeled it as being in front of the Appaloosa Grill, which is still across from the Pavilions.

Since this Saturday is expected to be cold, please make sure you dress warmly in layers, don't forget the gloves, and set your camera out in the cold the night before if you can. You don't want to have it fog up on you during the shoot. What I do is put my whole camera bag outside the night before a cold shoot. That way it is climatized to the weather and will not get water or frost damage.

Let me know if you have any questions or comments. Happy shooting!

Hello Everyone! I apologize I didn't get to send out some extra information sooner but, I've been in Iceland for the last couple of weeks and am just now getting a chance to do this. It looks like we have a pretty good size group going to our meetup on Saturday. And it looks like the weather will be very cold with snow having possibly fallen the day before. The high will be 24° and the low 4°. That most likely means that we will see temps in the teens during the walk.

So, with that in mind, I'd like to get a feel for how many people would prefer to change the date to the following weekend? Maybe Sunday, the 20th? The extended forcast shows that weekend to be more favorable but, you never know. Do we brave the chill this weekend? Or try for a warmer one?

Leave your comment as a reply to this comment and I'll go with the flow. Happy Shooting!

I know the forecast changes often but the 20th looks a lot warmer. Either is ok

Saturday is five days away. Could you wait until Thursday to make the call. Right now it's just a 30% chance of snow.

    January 7, 2013

    • Bret G.

I will wait a few days to make the final call. My only concern is that when the weather turned bad for the last walk, only one person made it. I just want to be cognizant of member's desires. If enough people definitely commit to the 12th, then I'll stick to that.

I am also doing a 12 mile walk earlier in the day. so, I would prefer changing this photo walk to the 20th. But I will come either day, although, I may be somewhat late on the 12th.

I vote for the 12th too. I'm out of town on the 20th. Thanks!

Hi Lin. It's at the corner of Welton and the 16th Street Mall. See you there.
