The First Annual Milwaukee Fun 4th of July Pool Party House Party

  • Jul 4, 2014 · 1:00 PM
  • Jason's House

Update #1:

The signup sheet for what you are bringing to the party can be found here: http://bit.ly/1sW4fh0

My special request: If you have a folding table, it would be helpful!

To everyone: If you have a folding chair or canvas chair you can bring for yourself, please do so!  I don't have enough chairs for everyone.

My thoughts are we'll meet up around 1 PM for the barbeque and picnic, play some games, hang out, have some drinks, swim in the pool, whatever we're in the mood to do.   If people stay til dusk, I think we should head over to nearby Greendale to check out the fireworks.  Please note that I live in the city of Milwaukee, which prohibits personal fireworks.  If you bring some to shoot off, we'll have to head to a nearby park (Greenfield, Greendale, Franklin and Oak Creek are all nearby.)  Personal fireworks cannot be shot off at my house.

I'll be sending this all out as a note - along with my home address - to everyone who has RSVP'd.

See ya soon!

Original post:

That's a lot of words for a pool party on the 4th of July.

But hey, who cares? It's been asked for a lot, so it's time to put this one in the books. I have a house. It has a backyard. There's a pool in it. It's above-ground but hey, people can still swim in it. Swimming is fun. We're Milwaukee Fun. I run Milwaukee Fun.

All the pieces seem to fit.

Okay, so hey! How about this: On the 4th of July, a couple dozen of us will get together, have a BYOB barbecue, drink some booze, play some volleyball (or HORSE on my basketball hoop - have you *played* HORSE lately? It's the shiz), play some games, maybe watch a bad movie, swim in the pool, listen to some music, and if everyone sticks around long enough, head to one of the local parks to watch the fireworks. Totally casual affair. My house isn't huge, but it's big enough for a day of fun.

As with all of our meetups at private residences, this one comes with a few ground rules:

1. We have to have met you before, or you must be a guest of someone who we have met before. We love first-timers at our events, but if we're opening up our homes, we want to have met you already. It's a safety thing.

2. This is a waitlist-only event. If you want to go, please RSVP to the waitlist. I will add people to the confirmed list manually.

(Note: I have myself at +30 just so that I am able to control the confirmed list.  If I have less than 30 people on my own RSVP, then people from the waitlist automatically get added to the confirmed list without my being able to manage it.  So the actual count of people is whatever the meetup says minus 30.)

3. No drama! Drama's for ER, and that was canceled ages ago.

4. Please bring some munchies or some booze to share. I'll put up a Google spreadsheet soon so that people can plan what to bring. I'll also provide my actual address to everyone about one week in advance of the party.

Looking forward to seeing you! Happy Independence Day!

Jason

Did anyone accidentally pick up a big, thick, white towel. The brand name is on a small blue tag on the end, and is "Hotelier". I just took the tags off and brought it to the party yesterday and it disappeared. If you did, please let me know as it was a gift.

Sorry to cancel everyone... I am going to visit my mom... But I will see y'all at the next event.

    July 2, 2014

  • Jason

Tomorrow I'll put up a Google spreadsheet for people to sign up to bring food or liquor or other stuff. One thing I'd like to ask everyone to bring if they can: A chair, if you have a lawn chair or canvas chair for yourself. I've got a few chairs, but not enough for 44 people. :)

I know haven't attended a meetup with you guys yet but I'm rsvping in the hopes that before this I will be able to meet you all at an upcoming event. I am sad I was not able to make it to dodgeball, I was looking forward to that for weeks.

Crud! I have a conflict! I'm sorry I will miss it!!!!!!!!!

    June 11, 2014

    • Jason

      You'll be missed!

      June 11, 2014

  • Jason

Hey y'all! I know there were 6 people who were "maybe's" when I announced this on Facebook. Since Meetup doesn't have a Maybe RSVP, I set you all as Yes, and you can just change your RSVP to No if you can't make it.

    1 · June 11, 2014

    • Jason

Also, just to repeat this from the event description:

I have myself at +30 just so that I am able to control the confirmed list. If I have less than 30 people on my own RSVP, then people from the waitlist automatically get added to the confirmed list without my being able to manage it. So the actual count of people is whatever the meetup says minus 30.
