MobileMonday™ (MoMo) is an open community platform of mobile industry visionaries, developers and influential individuals fostering brand neutral cooperation and cross-border P2P business opportunities through live networking events to demo products, share ideas and discuss trends from both local and global markets. Originating in Helsinki Finland, in 2000, activities are organized by some 300 dedicated volunteers from around the world and has become an industry leading mobile platform. Chapters have held events in over 140 cities worldwide and we continue to launch new locations monthly.
MobileMonday has the following global objectives:
o Foster an open and independent innovation platform within the mobile sector
o Facilitate industry networking between small and large companies and individuals
o Bridge partnership exchanges between domestic and international organizations
o To present innovative visions, trends, studies and forecasts from the mobile marketplace
o Provide opportunities for local members to effectively participate in global initiatives
Our philosophy includes openness, equality, inclusion and the assumption that ideas should be tested through vigorous debate, critical examination and peer review. We also believe that initiative and risk-taking should be honored and that the mobile industry plays a key role in shaping society. There is a direct relation between mobile connectivity and political, economic and social freedom, the power of democracy, the rational management of our future and the triumph of reason and enlightenment.
Most people on the planet have never touched a computer – and they never will. But it is conceivable that, one day, everyone will have a mobile phone allowing them to communicate with fellow citizens, access networks and improve the quality of their lives, their livelihood and their future.
MoMo is a tool to help the worldwide industry achieve benefits for everyone by spreading knowledge and encouraging people with good ideas to take action. As “mobile folks,” we invite you to examine how this industry can contribute to making our neighborhoods, our cities and our societies better.
The remarkable MobileMonday phenomenon began almost by accident in Helsinki, Finland during the autumn of 2000. A couple of well-known Finnish visionaries, invited the who’s who of the Finnish mobile industry to a pub for an informal get-together and ‘perhaps’ a few drinks. The only suitable time? Monday evening. See this video with Vesa-Matti “Vesku” Paananen – Founding Father of MoMo!
After meeting many new faces and discussing the latest in mobility, the group decided to continue meeting on the first Monday of each month — and thus, MobileMonday was born. Towards the end of 2004, the movement started to spread to other areas of the world and new MoMo chapters were started in Tokyo, Japan, Silicon Valley, USA as well as Rome and Milan, Italy. Since then, the number of locations has dramatically increased making MobileMonday the world’s leading mobile community.
