Valley of Dreams and Lybrook Badlands - Farmington Area
Details
This is an overnight outing to the Farmington area to view one of the most fascinating badland formations in the southwest.
The Valley of Dreams is located 70 south of Farmington and includes rock formations that are eerie alien landscapes with hoodoos and tall rock spires. It is one of the most beautiful areas in New Mexico. Petrified wood and fossil deposits are present along with the famous Alien Throne. There are two areas that we will visit. One hike is about 3 miles with less than 200 feet of elevation change. The other site is less than a mile. Hiking will be off trail on uneven terrain. Hiking poles are recommended. We will do both areas on Sunday.
On our way to Farmington Ted Harsha will lead a hike in the Lybrook Badlands where we will have lunch that you will bring. Ted is currently working on a route but the hike will probably be less than 4 miles over uneven terrain.
I will be staying in Farmington at the Comfort Suites. A 4wd high clearance vehicle is required for this outing. Everyone will have to load up in a 4wd vehicle at the 599 rail station. Please provide your driver $50. If you are going to be late call me at 505-699-2546.
Please check the posting the day before we leave for any changes.
Dogs are okay.
