Modernist Fiction, Its Origins and Beyond... and other stuff Message Board › Augustine @ Shokran tomorrow

Augustine @ Shokran tomorrow

user 8976567
Chicago, IL
Hello Augustinians -
The reservations for tomorrow's dinner are confirmed for ten people under my name. Shokran is cash only and BYOB.  Please update you RSVP if you think you cannot make it.  If more people want to come, please let me know as well so that we can update our reservations.
And now on to more exciting things:
"Bonaventura compares the theologian, in this way of unknowing, to a sculptor in marble.  The sculptor digs his statue out of the stone cutting away all that lies between him and the realization of his idea.  Hence, says Bonaventura, the contemplative theologian advances on via negationis by saying: This is not God, that is not God - non est hoc Deus, non est hoc.  He advances by denying and by taking away - per negationem et ablationem, ut sculptens faciunt, not by adding on." - from Tom Merton's Ascent to Truth (and also Augustine's method in the Confessions).
See you tomorrow.
