Needs a location
[PLEASE NOTE: This trip was originally scheduled for Jan. 25. Because of heavy rain on Jan. 25, the trip was re-scheduled for Sat., Feb. 1. Furthermore, because of the possibility of rain during the wee hours of Feb. 1, I have pushed the meeting time back to 10 am (instead of 9:30).]
The Great Egg Harbor River is part of the National Wild & Scenic River System; it is officially designated as "Scenic & Recreational." On Sat., Feb. 1 we will paddle 10 leisurely miles from Penny Pot County Park to historic Weymouth Furnace County Park (Atlantic County, NJ). "The Egg" is a Pine Barrens river, which means you can expect a mostly gentle current, with some narrow twisty sections (especially in the first mile), and the possibility of a few strainers and maybe a blow-down or duck-under to contend with just to add to our sense of adventure. We'll end the day by celebrating our exploits with a bite to eat at a local diner (optional).
Not suitable for beginners. This is a cold weather/cold water trip, so dress appropriately: i.e., if you have a wetsuit or drysuit, wear it; otherwise dress in layers, with a warm hat plus waterproof gloves and footwear, and NO COTTON! Bring lunch, beverages, snacks, and a complete change of clothes in a waterproof container; also rain gear in case of an unexpected shower. Bring your own boat and paddling gear; PFD's are required; and expect to participate in the car-shuttle (easy drive on paved roads).
So join us for a lovely winter paddle. If you have not paddled with me before, or if this is your first-ever winter trip, PLEASE CONTACT ME BEFORE YOU RSVP. Directions to the meeting place will be provided to paddlers who have been confirmed for this trip. Trip leader: Ira G., [masked] or[masked] (before 9pm, please).
