The Wading River is a beautiful little stream in the heart of the Pine Barrens. The section we'll be doing is generally clear, with a gentle current, and it has fewer twists and turns than some of the other Pinelands rivers, so it is ideal for a leisurely winter paddle. Along the way we'll pass one campground and a shed or two from local cranberry operations...and that's it! No houses or any other signs of civilization, just Mother Nature at her finest! It is approximately a 4- or 5-hour run, including stops for lunch and some leg-stretches. If there is enough water in the river and the group is agreeable, we can put-in a few miles farther upstream and add an hour to the trip.
This is a cold weather/cold water trip, so dress appropriately: i.e., if you have a wetsuit or drysuit, wear it; otherwise dress in layers, with a warm hat plus waterproof gloves and footwear, and NO COTTON! Bring lunch, beverages, snacks, and a complete change of clothes in a waterproof container; also rain gear in case of an unexpected shower. Bring your own boat and paddling gear; PFD's are required; and expect to participate in the car-shuttle.
So join us for a lovely winter paddle. If you have not paddled with me before, or if this is your first-ever winter trip, PLEASE CONTACT ME BEFORE YOU RSVP. Directions to the meeting place will be provided to paddlers who have been confirmed for this trip. Trip leader: Ira G., [masked] or[masked] (before 9pm, please).
