Ride to a delicious place to eat somewhere in Gettysburg.

  • Dec 8, 2012 · 10:00 AM

This is a 115 mile ride..... approximately 4.5 hours of riding. No highways at all. A lot of new roads to try, hopefully no gravel but who knows. If you want boring STAY HOME!!!!! Dobbin house is a really interesting tavern with a lot of history. So as my friend Eric says let's Ride-EAT-Ride!!

This will be a very relaxed pace and should be fun as long as the weather cooperates!!!!!

I have chosen the Gary Owens Irish Pub.

http://garryowenirishpub.net/

Garryowen Irish Pub, 126 Chambersburg Street, Gettysburg

Hopefully this pub will take our reservation.

Since The Dobbin House does not want our $$$$$ we will spend it elsewhere!!!

Meetup changed their format and made the ratings part of the conversation instead.

Based on the weather we flipped a coin and picked an alternate route. Weather was amazing, route was great and lunch was fabulous. Great to ride on a 60 degree day in December. Tim it was nice to meet you, Daniel it was so nice to ride with you again, and to all my other friends as always THANKYOU for riding with me. Today was definitely a 10 in my book.

It is foggy so be careful out there this morning. Should burn off by the time we are ready to leave the gas station. See you all soon.

And for further info the Highs at 2465 RT 97 does NOT have a gas station as clearly stated in the description above.

Tomorrows weather looks pretty good. I am riding and hopefully some of you will show up. No real rain till 3 PM and then it is only 30%......
    See you in the morning.

It is as stated on the map. 2101 Roxbury Mills Road. It is Glenwood not Cooksville. If you click on the link above it shows you exactly where it is.

  • Zinc

So.... the Glenwood Highs is@2465 rtf97 & the Cooksville Highs is 20191 and closer to I-70. Please confirm which one as your address is the one in Cooksville and not Glenwood. Thanks.

Ajit I don't know where we are going yet..... With this large a group we can't get a reservation, so I may try a couple of different places. If you are not riding with us than drop out......You cannot take up a spot and then just show up for lunch. At least not on my rides...sorry for any inconvenience.

    December 7, 2012

    • Ajit W.

Ah okay. I understand. Will drop out

      December 7, 2012

  • Jim M.

I made it in! Enough riders dropped out so I can ride. This will be my last ride before my hip replacement so I am really looking forward to this one.

    December 7, 2012

  • Drew-Valk R.

Well the weather has turned again....looks like we might get clear skies for the majority of the ride. GaryOwen pub does not guarantee reservations, so I think we just take our chances. As of right now my intention is definitely to ride. Keep a watch on the site and I will confirm this evening by 10PM. If all else fails I have a backup route somewhere else for lunch.........Oh screw it lets ride.........lol!!!

    December 7, 2012

I'm all about the riding I could care less about where we eat!

      December 7, 2012

    • Ajit W.

Something came up in the morning for me. Please post where you will halt for lunch, and I'll meetup there.

  • Drew-Valk R.

Don't forget bring raingear just in case......I am NOT stopping so someone can buy gear.

    December 7, 2012

  • Drew-Valk R.

I changed the lunch spot as long as they will take a reservation. I will call tomorrow to make sure.....The weather has taken a small turn to cloudy with 30% chance of showers. So bring your raingear......just in case!!!

The weather is going to be great for this ride. I couldn't get my bike started this past weekend, but i'm pretty sure that it was bad fuel and my spark plugs need to be cleaned. Should be an easy fix. Tempted to get it done for this weekend, but I'll hold off until the spring. I'm 2k miles overdue on a lot of maintanence so i've been pushing my luck this fall. If you see me at the motorcycle show in January, do not let me put a deposit on a new Ducati or Harley!

I'm up for any place you pick.

This is my list of possibilities....Take a look and see what you all think. I am open to suggestions..... Or I will just choose one myself.
    Let me know!!!

    December 5, 2012

  • Drew-Valk R.

They do not take reservations for lunch unless I guarantee with a credit card and if we don' t show I pay 10 bucks per person. I am not willing to do that. So we can take our chances or I will come up with a backup plan for lunch somewhere else.

Farmsworth House? Right around the corner and one of my favorites...

    Drew,
If Dobbin House can't take you try this place: http://www.dunlapsrestaurant.com/ Sandy and I have been there many times, awesome food, inexpensive, dow-home cooking, easy to find!

Oops. I meant to address that to Drew.

    December 5, 2012

  • Dick P.

Eric--If you give me a time, I will guarantee our reservation. Dick

    December 5, 2012

  • Bob J.

Eric's right: Dobbin House is big on charm but small on seating. The staff may feel they're being invaded by a group of 15! Check out the baked goods before you leave--fill your saddle bags! There's also a covered bridge over Marsh Creek within five miles of Dobbin House; I hope you'll check it out. And the view from Longstreet Tower on Confederate Ave is grand: Little Round Top, site of the 20th Maine's heroism at the Battle of Gettysburg, and the Eisenhower Farm, as well as the nearby mountains. Enjoy the ride, everyone!

    December 5, 2012

  • Drew-Valk R.

I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm. However for safety and the ability to keep a group together, and to get a reservation at a restaurant I prefer to keep the group around 15. I am sure by the end of the week several folks will drop out as they normally do. I am sorry if this is an issue but I really am not comfortable with a larger group. I hope you all understand.
    Thanks for your support.
    Drew
