The Trail Etiquette Thursday night ride

Weather permitting, let’s do another Thursday after work ride. As usual people will be hanging out in the parking lot afterwards so bring your food/beverage of choice. We will do our best to split into groups for different levels, but read #1 below. This is unsupported and you may lose your group. “Trail Etiquette by Eric: Be courteous to other trail users. Riders coming up hill have the right away. Please slow down for walkers, joggers, dogs, horses etc. This is a multi use trail. Don’t be that person who gives us a bad name.”

Everyone is welcome, but here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. This is an unsupported ride, which means that you should have experience on a mountain bike. You should be prepared to fix your bike, find your way back to the parking lot, and ride solo if it comes to that. This ride will not have a dedicated "sweeper." If you're worried about riding alone, think about bringing a friend or posting a note on the site before the ride.

2. If you don't know the trail, you should carry a map or directions. http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/cct/downloads/lakeffxtrailmap.pdf

3. A helmet is required, and we strongly encourage you to bring a cell phone and water.

4. You should have a bike tool, pump and spare tubes — and of course know how to use them

You can toot, just not at a turn or obstacle where everyone is backed up behind you.

Why change the name? Was much more fun last time! Is the group trying to get rid of beginners like me?

No, not at all. It was kind of an inside joke. But some seriousness with big groups in that we need to be courteous to other trail users. You may see different names to rides - just for fun.

Basically, if you are going to ride like a jerk...don't admit you know the rest of us.
