• Summer Solstice Ride!!

    Location visible to members

Weather is not looking too promising this week. Hoping we can get in a Thursday ride. If trails are wet and there is enough interest we can do a plan B ride on the W&OD to Old Ox. ****NOTE THE 6:30 START TIME**** Bring some food and beverages to share after the ride! 1. This is an unsupported ride, which means that you should have experience on a mountain bike (on dirt single track with roots and rocks and stuff). You should be prepared to fix your bike, find your way back to the parking lot, and ride solo if it comes to that. This ride will not have a dedicated "sweeper." If you're worried about riding alone, think about bringing a friend or posting a note on the site before the ride. 2. If you don't know the trail, you should carry a map or directions. http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/cct/downloads/lakeffxtrailmap.pdf 3. A helmet is required, and we strongly encourage you to bring a cell phone and water. 4. You should have a bike tool, pump, and spare tubes โ€” and of course know how to use them 5. Please drink responsibly. Metro is easily accessible from this location.

I purposely waited until the last minute to post so the weather would be fooled into not raining this week. I hope it works. Dane is taking the lead this week and will be organizing the troops. ****NOTE THE 6:30 START TIME**** Bring some food and beverages to share after the ride! 1. • MORE Spring Fling event at Lake Fairfax Park

    Lake Fairfax

I really dropped the ball on posting this, but hopefully you saw this on other social media outlets. The event details are in the photo for schedule, but most of the activity originates from the pump track, except for the Marc Genberg trail dedication at 9:00.

  • Lake Fairfax Spring Trail Work Series - Day 9 - finishing

    Location visible to members

Weโ€™re excited to be hosting the NOVA Spring Fling on May 4th at Lake Fairfax Park and even more excited about the opportunity to dedicate a new trail to Marc Genberg, fellow mountain biker and tireless volunteer who contributed many hours to both the trails and the community. This is going to be a fun event and great opportunity to gather as a community and enjoy some fun riding. So, as we continue to make progress on our trail renovation project at Lake Fairfax, what better time to crank up the fun-factor by jazzing up some existing trail and adding a whole new section to the trail that will be dedicated to Marc. Starting on March 2nd, weโ€™re going to kick off our Spring trail work series by adding rollers, berms and other cool features to the trail near the pumptrack. These vertical features will not only help to manage the flow of water across and away from the trails, but will also bring a fun, fast, and flowy character to a trail that is often muddy and just not particularly enjoyable to ride. Next up, we have a few other fun additions and adjustments to make before moving on to the brand-new trail section between what is now Trail 8 and Trail 12. This trail will bring us through an area that hasnโ€™t seen bikes since the old leaf trail was closed and will finally allow us to create a contiguous โ€œblueโ€ singletrack loop through the park. Weโ€™re sure it will soon be incorporated into your favorite rides at Lake Fairfax. All these improvements and additions are going to require a lot of work, so weโ€™re planning to hold work days every Saturday in March and April. We know that the weather isnโ€™t always cooperative this time of year, so weโ€™ll be keeping Sundays as our rain dates, so we are sure to have things ready for the Spring Fling. This is an aggressive schedule, but we think it will be well worth the effort. When: Every Saturday, from March 2 to April 27. 9am to 3pm. In case of rain, weโ€™ll try to reschedule for the Sunday of the same weekend. Where: Meet at the lower campground entrance to trail 12 next to the bridge. To get there follow signs to athletic fields as you come into the park, then towards and past the skatepark, onto the dirt road. Follow to the bottom of the hill on the left. What to bring/wear: Sturdy boots and pants, gloves, water and a snack. Tools: If you have a favorite shovel, wheelbarrow, or buckets, bring them along. Weโ€™ll have plenty to go around, but as weโ€™ll be moving a lot of dirt, it canโ€™t hurt to have extras.
