Mt Hooper has the advantage of being accessible from the west. It's still a grunt, with about 4700' of cross-country hiking/scrambling.
Fri 11/22 : Drive to Jackass Meadows (directly north of Florence Lake). Camp someplace handy.
Sat 11/23: 5:30am : drive to Hooper Diversion Dam (water level permitting). high-clearance may be required. I can carry 5 total. Begin hiking up & up & up ... Hard turn-around time : 2:30.
Sat evening : fire. steak. wine.
Sunday : MTB at Squaw Leap?
The campground at Jackass Meadow is closed for the season. I will leave a message at the campground BB describing where I am.
Directions: take highway 168 to Huntington Lake. Then take Kaiser Pass Road east to the turnoff to Florence Lake. Take Florence Lake Road almost to the dam. Look for signs to Jackass Meadow, should be on your left.
Currently, there is little to no snow on the ground. However, a squall is passing through on Wed & Thu. Significant snowfall will lead to cancellation. There are webcams at huntington lake & china peak. It may be possible to salvage the trip using snowshoes. Crampons & axe will not be needed.
You should be prepared for inclement weather & subfreezing temps.
I have a strong preference for carpooling. It's a long drive.
