Women's Rights, Are Human Rights: "Half the Sky" Screening

We'll be showing a screening of Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. There are two parts of this documentary.

This documentary, shot in 10 countries: Cambodia, Kenya, India, Sierra Leone, Somaliland, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Liberia and the U.S. Inspired by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn's book, the documentary series introduces women and girls who are living under some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable — and fighting bravely to change them. Traveling with intrepid reporter Nicholas Kristof and A-list celebrity advocates the film reflects viable and sustainable options for empowerment and offers an actionable blueprint for transformation.

The screening is FREE and first come, first serve. A suggested donation of $10 at the door will go towards the Half the Sky featured NGO's to support their ongoing work for women across the world.

- Grameem Foundation
- Somaly Mam Foundation
- Room to Read

We encourage everyone to bring a friend, neighbor, family member or co-worker along to this event. It is without doubt, one of the most important documentary to watch in this century.

Seating is limited. Please be polite and RSVP.

Fabulous film/documentary - some amazing people profiled in such a compassionate, "real" way. I really enjoyed the Q&As as well, although the whole was a tad overwhelming/long for me.

Amazing turnout of people who made time to attend today. Looking forward to putting a larger fundraising team together to either build a school or shelter for trafficked victims. If you enjoyed this event, please consider joining: http://www.meetup.com/Think-Act-Change-NYC

The speakers today will be great. I actually reached out to many more HTS partner organizations but they were all too busy to attend :(

Yes, I made a reservation this afternoon with Aya before I even realized this group was having a meetup. Then I decided it would be fun to go with a group so I RSVPed here. Is that okay?

Just made a donation to CARE through Crowdwise -- it was through the "Half the Sky Movement" page. I'll bring my receipt with me.

Looking forward to it. (and it's at 2:30 -- correct???)

Hi Lori, I am hosting this event and it will be starting at 2:30pm. Their are two parts to this documentary which are 1.5 hours long. In addition, I will have speakers during Q&A therefore the event will need to start earlier and not later.

The start time may change slightly. The documentary is over 3.5 hrs and we are planning to take a 20-30min break in between the two parts so everyone can stretch their legs and grab a drink/bite.
