Strawberry Picking and Feast

Join us for our 8th Annual Strawberry Picking and Feast.  We will be going to G&S Orchards out on Atlantic Ave.  Bring sunscreen, a picking hat and some cash to purchase self-picked pounds of strawberries.  After our harvest, we will go to a nearby park (Ginegaw Pk. with bathrooms and water) for our feast.  Donate some of your take and we all pitch in to cut, sugar and serve the strawberries.  I will bring mixing bowls, cutting boards, knives, ice cream, bowls, spoons.  Others are needed to volunteer toppings, whipped cream, bananas, and short bread or cornbread.  It is always a great time.

(************************************)

Hello all,

Looks like a sunny, warm day on Saturday (bring your bonnets!)  After picking, we will go to Ginegaw Park (from G & S Orchards, drive down Lincoln Rd. to Atlantic Ave., turn left and proceed to the end of Atlantic.  Turn right onto Ontario Center Rd (Rt. 350) and take your first left onto Walworth-Penfield Rd.  Ginegaw park is on the right.  Look for the pavilion in the park on the left.  Once there, we will contribute some of our gleanings to the common fund, cut then sugar then eat with ice cream and shortcake.  Yumm!

For our strawberry feast, we need a list of who brings what.  Here is what we need:

2 cutting boards

paring knives

collander

2 mixing bowls

mixing spoon

sugar

plastic serving bowls (15)

plastic spoons (15)

vanilla ice cream (1/2 gallon)

biscuits or corn bread or shortbread (no spongecake!!!)

paper towels

Please post a message on what you can bring.  Thanks!

There is water at the park, and bathroom facilities.  If it is not taken, we will be in the pavilion, otherwise open picnic tables.

I came berry picking last year but we were not able to pick because of the weather. Now I know the real reason was so I could have my first berry picking with my 2 year old grand son. It just doesn't get any better. Thanks everyone who made it an awesome event. Missed you Brian.

Hi all-- okay, if Brian isn't there, who is it us newbies should look for, and where do we meet? I've never been to G&S orchards-- is there an obvious meeting place?

    ROBERT:

Yes! I'll be in the back of the bldg. from Monroe. (Either that or at 7--9 Edmonds St., either 7 or 9 front porch.) Indigo shirt, gray pants, white sneakers, holding a newspaper (and I'm a person of weighty matters). What color is your car?

I'm going to be up on the St. Lawrence Seaway until tomorrow, so most likely will miss the feast this year. Have a great time picking, and don't eat too many shortcakes. See you at the movies.

Baked the shortcakes this morning...sampled to make sure they were good enough to share. Lucky I don't have strawberries today! I will have a cooler with ice I could bring --got too much for a picnic yesterday-- so if anyone's bringing items that need to be kept chilled and doesn't have a cooler, please let me know. I see that Dann is bringing whipped cream, so I assume that'll be enough and I needn't get more?

Hi Yvonne-- I noticed you posted after me the other day on the shortcakes, so I only made a single batch instead of a double. I think I have 16 single shortcakes-- which is enough for everyone to have one. However, people may very well want seconds, so I'm sure a second batch would be enjoyed!

ok, I'll make a second batch. See you tomorrow!

I'm going to say maybe for this one. Sounds very fun. My girlfriend and I are moving this week, so this might be a nice break from all the unpacking we are doing. Plus we both love strawberries!!

I'm going to have to be a maybe for this. They've called a work meeting for that morning, and depending on the agenda we may run late. Hoping I'll be done in time to come find you folks and join the picking before you're done. :)
