The Little Theater Movie and Talk Meetup Group Monthly Meetup

  • Sep 6, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Welcome to our group. We see movies at the Little Theatre on East Ave. in Rochester on the first Saturday of the month. We meet at 6:00 - 6:15 near the cafe behind the ticket booth for cinemas 2-5. I usually send out suggested movies from among the 6:30 to 7ish showings. This allows us to get out of the theater at about the same time for talk. Pair up with people for a movie or join the general group. We agree to meet afterwards at a near by restaurant, for conversation about the movie, life, or toward wherever the conversation leads.

Join us to meet new people, see an interesting movie, and have a nice night out with good conversation, connection and companionship. All are welcome.

See you at the movies.

Hello all,

Well, back to school time.  Also it is busier movie-going season (the Fall).  There is "Magic in the Moonlight" (PG-13, 97min., in Theater 2 at 6:50p), Woody Allen's film of the 1920s French Rivera about Colin Firth, a magician trying to expose Emma Stone, a psychic medium, as a fraud.  Lots of great scenery, wordplay, and Woody Allen humor.

New Yorker review by David Denby

"Land Ho" (R, 95 min., Theater 4 at 7p) is a story of old friends rejuvenating their friendship and outlook on life with a buddy escapade in Iceland.  There are still more good times to come, no matter what age.

NY Times review by Manohla Dargis

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/11/movies/land-ho-sends-men-of-a-certain-age-to-iceland.html?_r=0

"Calvalry" (R, 100 min., in Theater 4 at 7:10p) is a story of an Irish priest who is threatened by a mysterious member of his parish, black comedy?  The tag line goes..."Will he have the courage to face his own personal cavalry?"  The previews look interesting.

Review from The Observer by Xan Brooks

"The Hundred-Foot Journey"(PG, 122 min., in Theater 5 at 6:40p) is a story of an Indian family settling in small town France and having the "Gaul" to open an Indian restaurant across from a Michelin-rated French restaurant.  Starring Helen Mirren, Om Puri and Charlotte Le Bon, it is a feast for the eyes as well as for gastronomy.

Before your film, meet the group at 6pm between the ticket booth and the cafe.  Introduce yourself, ask "Is this the movie group?"  We are friendly bunch.  Decide which movie you wish to see (we all do not see the same film, necessarily).  If there are more than 10 members, ask for the Movie Group discount of $1 off, if you wish.  After the film, walk over to The Golden Port on East Ave (just past Salinger's, and across from Gibb St.)  Sit at small tables with the people you saw the film with and enjoy the discussion.  There is great Chinese/Vietnamese/Thai and Dim Sum selections, and great service at The Golden Port.  Tip your servers well for their good service.

See you at the movies.

I am really going to put in an effort to get free from my Single Dad responsibilities and make it point to come join in. Sounds like some great films to pick from and a decent turn out to finally meet some of my fellow members. Thanks!
