Guillermo Del Toro's kaiju (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiju) (ie., giant monster) movie Pacific Rim's comes out next month, but have you seen the film that started it all? The granddaddy of the giant monster genre? (Besides King Kong that is)
Godzilla has spawned nearly 30 sequels (more than the Bond series), most of which are considered campy, b-movie fare. However, the original from 1954 is actually a serious drama, a cautionary tale from a Japan coming off of nuclear attack and H-bomb testing in the Pacific.
We'll be watching this original Japanese 1954 version (w/ subtitles) on Criterion Blu-ray (http://www.criterion.com/films/27755-godzilla) (not the edited American version from 1956, nor the horrendous remake from 1998).
We'll meet at 7:0pm and give folks time to chit-chat and settle in, and we'll start the film at 7:30pm.
All the usual guidelines (http://www.meetup.com/movies-579/messages/boards/thread/34245092/0/#[masked]) for food, RSVPs, no-shows, etc. at home events apply. Let me know if you have any questions that aren't covered there.
