Discuss Songs in Science Fiction (Dinner is Optional)

Part 1: Dinner

The November Dinner & Discussion will start with Dinner at the Park West Diner in Little Falls at 6:30 PM. Anyone arriving late is on their own. At dinner we talk about everything in the world except the evening's topic.

Part 2: Discussion

The Discussion will be held at 8:00 PM at The Fine Grind Coffee Bar in Little Falls. It's on Route 23 South, a little to the south of the Willowbrook Mall.

You don't have to make the dinner to attend the discussion.

The evening's topic is Songs in Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror. For purposes of this discussion, we will rule-of-thumb a song as a tune with lyrics, as opposed to music (which we have in the past discussed) which encompasses both instrumentals and songs. We may make some exceptions.

So we won't talk about the music of the original STAR TREK, except if it comes up in context with the much-debated song from enterprise. We will stay away from musical instruments and singers, although discussing a song by a particular singer is fine.
Confused? Then show up for a discussion of everything from IN THE YEAR 2525 to THE ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES Puberty Love.

The discussion is not limited to films. Television series, books, comic books and other genres are all grist for the mill.

Here's a list of topics we've discussed in the past:

This was a really fun time. We discussed movies in which the songs played an important plot role (YELLOW SUBMARINE, MARS ATTACKS), movies in which they soundtracked memorable moments (CLOCKWORK ORANGE, MAD MAX), and some music which was just too distinctive to ignore (2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND).

We also talked about SF songs (IN THE YEAR 2525, ROCKET MAN, SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL), and songs in genre books, anime, comic, television and more.
