This is a beautiful creek that can only be paddled at certain times of the year. In the summer months, it is too shallow to navigate.
We will paddle 10 miles from Germantown Dam to its termination in the Great Miami River at Middletown, Ohio. There is not a livery for boat rental or a shuttle. You will need to own your own boat and be willing to shuttle with other kayakers on this meet up.
We will meet at the terminus for this route at 9AM Miami River Reserve Park in Middletown, Ohio (https://plus.google.com/110568871481897112523/about?gl=us&hl=en) and prepare our boats for shuttle to the Dam launch area. I will bring a truck that seats 6 and a trailer and racks with the ability to transport a dozen boats. Plan to arrive 15-20 minutes before. If you are running late, please call. I will provide my cell number once RSVP's close.
We will push of from the shoreline at 10 AM
We should be out of the water 4 PM
Expect to spend about 6 hours on the water
We will take a leisurely paddle giving plenty of time for camera opportunities
This paddle is 10 miles + or -
This paddle is suitable for paddlers with moving water experience. You must be 18 years of age or older and sign the liability waiver. Its not a hard paddle, however their are obstacles to manover.
• What You See
Old railroad bridges, beautiful forests, wildlife, more
There are 2 parks that we will pass by that have restrooms. Else, its back to nature.
We will have lunch on the water. Bring plenty of food, water and snacks.
A boat that tracks well would be ideal, but not necessary. There are some spots that you will need to get out of the boat and pull over the shallow spots. A bit flatter or non-ridged hull is better.
• What to Bring
PFD and all your summer-weather stuff...sun hat / water / sun screen / bug spray, lights, dry clothes, dry shoes, and safety equipment. Food and water. Bring a towel as to respect the vehicle owner in which you share a shuttle.
PLEASE NOTE: This is the first time I have attempted to paddle this waterway this year and as such, there may be strainers, and obstacles that may require portage. With that said, if you are an adventurous type, have moving water kayak experience, and would like to visit this rarely paddled gem, read on...
