Robo Avatar Hackathon is an initiative looking to drive the Montreal deep tech ecosystem to focus on building the next generation of robotic solutions and create awareness around an international competition, the ANA Avatar XPRIZE where the winning team will combine state-of-the-art technologies to demonstrate a robotic avatar that allows a human’s senses, actions, and presence to be transported to a distant location in real-time.

During 24 hours (20-21 September) of competition, individuals and teams (80 participants) will develop technology solutions to solve specific remote tasks related with Avatar System Use Cases and work on a plan of action exploring how one can be built.

What is the Prize:
Case Competition 1500$ CAD
Tech Challenge (X3): 500$ CAD

Avatar XPRIZE Application Deals (valued it in 1500$ USD):
Winner - Free Avatar XPRIZE Application
2nd - 50% off.
3rd - 25% off
10% off for all participating teams.

ROBO AVATAR ENGINEERING CASE COMPETITION (TBA)
Team Objectives Problem Statement: Given the vision of the Avatar competition –to use emerging technologies to create a functional robot that provides an immersive experience at a remote location that supports multi-modal interaction and scenarios of real-world utility.

Design Approach
Initial Design Concept
Technical Feasibility
Assessment of Robot implementation
Controller system
What type of operating systems is the team planning to use?
What type of sensory systems is the team planning to use? (Vision, Hearing/Sound, Haptics, Smell)
Other modalities
How does your team plan to handle latency and lag challenges? Etc.

ROBO AVATAR TECH CHALLENGES (TBA)
Robo Avatar Tech Challenges will validate engineer skills in some specific Avatar technologies like sensors, virtual reality, networking latency, mechatronics, computer vision, etc.

Examples:
Mechatronics: Use a robotic arm controlled remotely by an operator for a specific use case like take an object.
Robo Race challenge: Using AI Vision to navigate autonomously in a virtual/physical track.
Perceptual System Challenge: like haptics to determine structural and substantive attributes of objects. Categorization of objects into previously identified classes, etc.
High-speed network connections and latency reduction: Transmission of a perceptual system like sight from the Avatar to the operator getting a real-time interaction.
Sensor Challenges: Brain-Machine Interfaces (BMI) and body sensors like EMG, and EKG can be used for semi-autonomous control, or possibly for embedded self-assessment of how the Human-Avatar system is performing.
