I feel so fortunate to have the relationship we have with the wonderful staff at the Ramsey House. This is another one of the programs they are doing just for our group. They never let us down and always provide us with an excellent program. the docents, in stay in character and are very knowledgeable about the Ramsey's and the era. The cost for this event is $10.00, we will collect the fee from each person and will make one payment for the group. Please RSVP responsibly, the count I give them determines how many docents they will need. It is disheartening when I tell them that 40 people are coming and only 27 show up. It just takes a second to change your RSVP, so if you can't make it, change it.
We learned at the Victorian Secrets program, that things were always as they seemed with all the social graces, they had their secrets and ways of getting around the norms of the day. The same can be said of the politics. Mudslinging and nastiness are nothing new, they did there share of it even back in the 1800's. In discussing this program with Jayne Becker the program director, she was telling me in the case of Ramsey and Sibly, they were very close friends, even though they were on opposite sides of the political fence. Even their children were friends. While they were campaigning against each other, the name calling and so forth got pretty nasty, but at the end of the day it stopped when they were friends again. It seems that most of the mudslinging was done by the campaign staff.
Jayne said they would be bringing out artifacts and things that are usually not shown to the public.
