Over the years we've toured the Swedish Institute many times and have seen many fine exhibits. But as with every museum, the majority of the collection is never seen. And while we have heard some history of the Turnblad family and the mansion, their is so much more to learn. The staff has developed what they call the Experimental Tour-Art, Craft and Design. This TWO hour tour takes us behind the scenes, we will see things from the collection that has not been seen by the general public and we will also be taken to areas of the museum that is never seen by the public and volunteers. We will wrap up our tour, by learning a Swedish craft.

• Our tour is scheduled to start before the museum opens to the public. It is not necessary to arrive much before 10:45 and arrive no later than 11:00. Enter through the Nelson Visitors Center. A staff person will let us in. We will gather in the lobby.

How many craftsmen did it take to create Turnblad Mansion? What inspired ASI's new building and expanded campus? Created in partnership with Meet Minneapolis, the new ASI Experiential Tour is the perfect opportunity to explore the Turnblad Mansion and Nelson Cultural Center in an entirely new way! Through the tailored lens of Swedish art, craft and design, discover where tradition and modern meet at ASI. Learn about the exquisite craftsmanship that went into building the mansion, go behind the scenes and see ASI’s collection, and try your hand at a Swedish handcraft.

Following our tour we will head over to the Mid Town Global Market for lunch and conversation. There is a wide selection of yummy reasonably priced foods to choose from.
