Have you wondered how beautiful tiles are created, on this tour we will find out how they're made. We will see how each step in the process leads to a finished product. Mercury Mosaics is located in a massive 15,000 square foot, sunlit factory with high ceilings that make it feel like the staff are working outside. The founder Mercedes Austin has always wanted a space as wonderful as the tile, and now she has it: a dream space to work, creating beautiful handmade ceramics with a team of thirty humans and two canines strong. I have no doubt we will be impressed. I have alerted them that we tend to ask a lot of questions, so don't be afraid to ask.
Unfortunately, they do not host tours on weekends so Monday was the best option. We can have up to 30 people, the fee for the tour is $5.00 to be collected at the studio. Please plan to arrive by 12:45 so we can start the tour promptly at 1:00. It is important to RSVP responsibly if your plans change do everyone a favor and change your response at least 24 hours in advance. DON'T BE A LAST MINUTE CANCELATION OR NO SHOW.
All of their ceramic tiles are made from clay right in their factory. Each piece is hand-cut, hand-glazed, and fired to a beautiful sheen. Each tile is touched by at least nine pairs of human hands in the making process before locally-sourced, right down to the compostable packing peanuts. They ship the finished product all over the country.
There are several restaurants close by, let's plan to gather at one of them after the tour.
Parking should not be a problem, there is a lot in front of the building.
