Our Guest Speaker for the evening will be: Stone Stafford, Sr. Creative Director of So So Def Productions

After graduating from high school in 1989, Stone Stafford attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA by way of a music scholarship. While at Morehouse, Stone and four other classmates formed a singing group and were discovered by MC Lyte and signed to First Priority/Atlantic Records. While the recording career of the group was short lived, Stone went on to write with such producers as Tony Rich, Dallas Austin, Shek?spere and former Sean (then ?Puffy?) Combs? Bad Boy hitmen Anthony Dent and J-Dub.

In January 2000, Stone was selected to open and head up Sony/ATV Music Publishing?s new Atlanta office which, under his oversight, became relatively the #1 office in productivity of all the Sony U.S. offices (Santa Monica, Nashville, Miami and NY) with songs on such artists as B2K, Blu Cantrell, Monica, 702, Whitney Houston, Mandy Moore, and others both foreign and domestic including TV and Film.

After some corporate ?restructuring?, Sony effectively closed its Atlanta office and Stone went on to become founder & CEO of Script Squad Music Publishing to which he signed its first producer, 18 yr. old prodigy and Lashaunda ?Babygirl? Carr (Stacie Orrico, Keke Palmer, Kreesha Turner).

Through SSM, Stone also conducts a unique and successful songwriting clinic for aspiring songwriters.

Keeping his writing talents sharp, Stone co-wrote the first single ?Radio? on former Jive recording artist, Jarvis. Released in June 2004, ?Radio? reached #6 on BET?s countdown and was in the top 10 on Billboard?s Greatest Gainer Airplay and Sales charts. He has also written for Atlantic Records? Ke Ke Palmer (?Madeah?s Family Reunion?; ?Akeelah and the Bee?) on her 2007 debut album ?So Uncool?.

In September 2004 Stone was hired as Sr. Creative Dir. for So So Def Productions. He is primarily responsible for overseeing So So Def?s roster of producers known as ?So So Def?s Most Wanted?. In 2006, he acquired the additional responsibility as music publisher for Dieniahmar/EMI Music Publishing. Stone works closely with the both companies? founder/CEO Jermaine Dupri, who also serves as Island/Def Jam President of Urban Music

In addition to his duties with So So Def Productions and Dieniahmar/EMI, Stone consults for Justin Timberlake?s record label, Tennman/Interscope, as their East Coast A&R rep.
