Memorial Day Hike at Chantry Flats!
Let’s do a little hikey in the shady that won’t knock you out for your BBQy later in the day! The Chantry Flats Zion Loop Hike is a lovely 10 mile hike, with 2,200 feet of elevation gain. This hike is for intermediates and above. The hike crosses a stream in a few places. Presently the stream is at a low level. The majority of the hike will be though the shaded canopy of the forest with views of Mt Wilson, and the surrounding peaks.
The Route is a loop. We start at Lower Chantry Flats gate taking the Gabrieleno Trail and hit Cascade Picnic spot, Spruce Grove Camp, & Camp Sturtevant (Break). Then on to Mt Zion-Upper Winter Creek Trail-Take a left turn at fire road Hike ends at top of Chantry Flats Picnic Area. If the group wants-we can add a short side trip to Sturtevant Falls.
Directions-From the 210 freeway in Arcadia exit on Santa Anita Avenue and drive six miles north to its end at Chantry Flats. Despite the recent ruling have your adventure pass displayed just in case.
Bathrooms-Flush toilets w running water and vault toilets in the parking lot. Porta potties at Spruce and Cascade areas.
Recommended-Bug Spray, 2-3 liters of fluid, food, sunblock.
Timing- 7am-12pm with faster hikers welcome
For my hikes I require 3 things from everyone:
1. Your full real name
2. The first name of your ICE person
3. Their cell number not yours.
Put these 3 things on the secret question portion on the meetup or you cannot attend the hike.
There is a high probability that the Pack Station will be open and selling cold ones, snacks, and BBQ. It actually is pretty good if you are feeling thirsty or hungry afterward and want to kick it some before the trek home. They have goats too. I like goats.
Plus ones over 18 are ok on this hike.
