Founder and director of SKYLINE, Melissa Urcan, will act as the tour Emcee as she discusses the overall project, architecture sites, and architects and artists work chosen for the event. Then, at selected sites, the architects and artists will be on hand to discuss the design and thought process behind the installations, and the resulting work on view.
Two tours will be held on Friday February 21. The tours start at 6pm and 8pm, and last two hours each. These are walking tours. Both tours for each night will cover approximately half of the installation sites – the 6pm tour will be covering installations within the Fashion District and the 8pm tour will cover installations in the Broadway and Historic Districts.
I HAVE PURCHASED TICKETS FOR THE 8 PM TOUR; I AM ALSO CONSIDERING DOING THE 6 PM TOUR IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING IT, LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTING IN DOING ALL 4 HOURS OR PERHAPS MEETING AT 7:00 TO SEE SOME OF THE OTHER EXHIBITS AND SPACES, THEN THE FORMAL TOUR AND DANCE PERFORMANCE AT 8:00.
Here's a calendar of the entire event - I believe that most of the installations on the map are open the whole evening and are free to view, but I opted for the guided tour so we can get more info on the project, the area of downtown involved, and also see the dance performance (I've seen several of Heidi Duckler's "site specific" performances and they are really interesting).
All tours will depart from 325 W. 8th Street (Corner of Hill and 8th Street – Installation #4). Tours will depart promptly at 6:00pm and 8:00pm respectively. Be sure to arrive early to register. Tours will return to the starting destination at 8:00pm and 10:00pm respectively, or tour goers are welcome to continue onto other locales after the tour is completed.
Both Friday and Saturday tours, February 21 and 22 will include the dance performance of Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre at the Cooper Design Space, and provide an opportunity to meet the performers.
