NewSQL: Relational-Document Store in a Scalable Transactional DB + BEER + PIZZA

NewSQL: Relational-Document Store in a Scalable Transactional DB

presented by:

Sergei Tsarev, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Clustrix, a NewSQL company

A Database Week addendum-event:

+ Free BEER, swag, PIZZA and desserts + AppleTV RAFFLE!

The last decade saw an explosion of web applications and mobile devices resulting in overwhelming volumes of data. Traditional database designs from 30 years ago have not kept pace and no longer scale to handle these large amounts of data. A new database architecture is a must to enable applications to scale and not give up their transactional requirements as a primary data store. And to empower developers to be flexible and agile, the database needs to support different ways of working with the data depending on the application requirements, not only in a table but document view as well. All while maintaining the power of SQL and transactional benefits of a relational data store.

Learn what it takes to scale SQL to the largest transactional websites serving 100M+ users and billions of database transactions per day, and how developers don't have to give up the power of a relational data store to work in a document centric approach like JSON.

Sergei Tsarev, Co-Founder & CTO at Clustrix, has previously led the Internet Operations Systems Infrastructure team at AOL, designing large-scale monitoring and configuration management systems. Sergei's accomplishments include developing the Simple Time-series Database (STDB), a high performance data storage engine for operational monitoring metrics. STDB uses commodity hardware to linearly scale to hundreds of thousands of writes per second. STDB has become the standard storage engine for network and host monitoring data for all of AOL, replacing traditional high-end database infrastructure.

Sergei earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from University of Maryland, College Park.

Another great meetup. Eric really knows how to throw great events and get great innovative people to talk and share their experiences. They had non-alcoholic drinks this time which i greatly appreciated. Great networking at the beginning and end. If you want to find new IT friends to collaborate with this is the group.
