Welcome to Nashville, Brian!

Hi all,

I had a great time at the meetup last night. It was my first one since
moving to Nashville this week. When it looked like we might not have
enough presentations to fill the hour, I whipped up some slides
introducing rrdtool, a time-series database, and the librrd Ruby
bindings. The next time we have a night of multiple shorter talks I'm
happy to present this.

Since I'm new to town and in the job market, Josh suggested I send a
self-introduction to this mailing list.

I've been programming in Ruby intermittently since 2007; it's my go-to
language when a shell script just won't cut it. I'm not a Rails
developer, but I'm familiar with that ecosystem. When I have spare time
(unfortunately in short supply lately), I contribute to several plugins
for Vagrant.

My primary skillset is Linux systems administration. I'm a big believer
in the "devops" approach and tools (e.g. Chef). I've worked in
universities supporting researchers and scrappy startups supporting
developers and found things to enjoy about both environments.

If anyone knows of opportunities I might be a fit for, please email me
off-list. My resume is here [0], and you can also look me up on github
[1] and serverfault [2].

Looking forward to the next meetup!

All the best,
Brian Pitts
