Moderate hike at Long Hunter Volunteer Trail Day Loop - Baker's Grove Trailhead
Hike Distance: 4 miles Estimated Hike Time: about 2 hours Difficulty: Moderate Kid and leashed dog friendly Park map: http://bit.ly/2rMnXzJ From Trails.com: This hike explores the wilder side of Long Hunter State Park. Follow the Volunteer Trail a half mile through the woods and pick up the Day Loop Trail. The Day Loop Trail skirts the rocky shoreline of Percy Priest Lake. Circle around to a high bluff and enjoy stunning lake views before reaching a quiet cove that was once settled. Ramble over a hill filled with tall oaks, then backtrack a half-mile to finish the hike. The state of Tennessee is very fortunate to be in control of this park land that covers some 33 shoreline miles of Percy Priest lakes. As Nashville has expanded and lakeshore property has become more desirable for housing, the value of this land has skyrocketed. To obtain this shoreline now would break the state budget. The land is currently under a 99-year lease from the Army Corps of Engineers, who dammed Percy Priest Lake in 1968. Long Hunter State Park was established shortly after the damming. We will be hiking this trail Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays weather permitting.

What we're about

In today's go-go-go, everybody's behind, got to get more done world, it seems like our work week keeps us stressed to the max. That makes our weekends even more important, as a way to get out and get away from all the stresses of our jobs. But sometimes we're just too busy to find different things to do or meet new people. One group of Tennesseans has found a way around that time crunch. They meet up through the internet...first on a web page, then live and in person...and always with a common goal of outdoor adventure. Meet Nashville Hiking Meetup.

In addition to our regular hikes and other outdoor adventures, we also plan social events and organize community volunteer projects such as park cleanup and trail building!

Get exercise,

. Make new friends,
. . Respect the environment,
. . . Give back to the community,
. . . . Laugh a lot

What more could you want? :-)
