Azimuth, Quadrangle, and Triangulation -- What goes into Great Mapmaking?
Meet and mingle, enjoy wine and snacks, and win some prizes!
We've all been there: you’re excited to hike at a park you've never visited and the trail map at the visitor center appears to be a fax of a xerox of lines on a cocktail napkin run through the rinse cycle way too many times. But at other parks the maps are pristine things of beauty and accuracy.
http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/8/9/e/600_268607262.jpeg Join Jason Marks, middle Tennessee cartographer and publisher of the new Fall Creek Falls State Park Guide & Hiking Map, as he presents the process, challenges, and pitfalls of creating the stellar maps for both Montgomery Bell and Fall Creek Falls State Parks. Jason is the founder of Teq Design and has spent years refining the process of great mapmaking. Jason will discuss the data collection that goes beyond consumer GPS devices, topography challenges, the historical research involved, and using sustainably sourced materials to create these works of cartographical joy.
Celebration will include education session & autographs, wine tasting, treats & prizes! After the presentation we'll have a "progressive party:" wine and beer tastings at Bottle Shop, frozen yogurt at 32 Degrees, and mingling at Mountain High Outfitters.
