From people in the Middle Tennessee Hiking group. There is crossover.
Love to hike, backpack, and kayak. I'll even bike. When I'm not doing these things I'm a public high school English teacher. Originally from Washington DC area, but have lived long enough in Nashville to be a native.
The day was simply wonderful! Fresh air, sunshine, waterfalls, flowers, new friends, and good food! Five of us- mostly strangers to each other- piled into my car and drove to Rock Island. By the time we got there, Dave, Larry, Troy, Chessie and I were friends. We learned about the history of the area from Ranger Dava. Then the five of us, plus James Q., hiked the Collins River Trail- only 2 miles of it, as we used a connector trail in order to save time. Thank you, Dave, for leading. We met up with Dava again and hiked the Upstream Trail. We learned the names of many early blooming flowers, such as Spring Beauties, Rue Anemones, Hepatica, Trillium, and Trout Lillies. We ate afterwards at a convenience store/restaurant. I don't remember the name. The best meals were catfish with slaw and hush puppies and good old burgers and fries. It was a very good day. I plan to return to Rock Island.
