NWMG Workshop: Want to write a novel?

  • Apr 7, 2013 · 2:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Want to write a novel, but wondering how to get started? Or, well underway, but stuck or looking for new ideas? If so, join us at this free, interactive NWMG workshop.

In this structured session, we will talk about how your writing goals should influence your completed project, premise vs. theme, plot and sub-plots-- and how to build them, and lots of nuts and bolts including wordcounts, POV dos and don’ts, scene essentials, creating characters, dropping in backstory, jazzing up your dialog, opening pages, and more.

Participants will leave with notes on their own project, a summary of basics, an annotated list of references (books and websites), and—we hope—a bit of inspiration.

Seats are limited, so if you sign up and can’t make it, please change your RSVP as a courtesy to others.

And, watch for more NWMG workshops, coming soon!

(Facilitator: Cheryl Rieger. For those of you who don't know me, I am hard at work writing my second book, Blood Tells. My first mystery, Another Way to Die, is represented by the Carol Mann Agency.)

Cheryl, you're a natural teacher. Thank you so much for the amazing workshop- thanks to you I figured out how to get through that pesky middle, so it was a huge success for me.

Incredible! Cheryl put concrete examples to all the abstract facets of writing a novel. Last week I just thought I understood the craft, this week, thanks to Cheryl, I feel like I really do know what I'm doing. Thanks so much! Can't wait for the next one! :)

Spectacular and very valuable for someone like myself who is considering tackling a novel.
Cheryl gave me the blueprint I need to confidently set forth.

Loved this Cheryl! You were so clear and it was so easy to get useful, workable jump off points from your little challenges. I'd love to see you teach another workshop!

I really enjoyed this workshop. The facilitator was organized and had lots of material on the subject of writing (love charts and graphs). I can't believe this workshop, which held to the timeframe, also a plus, was free. I'm glad I went.

Sadly I have something important I need to do that afternoon. I am really feeling the pain of having to give up my seat. But to someone elses gain. Please have another one like it again. You'll have the materials! Plus experience! Can we get notes?
