Young Adult Fiction Writers Chat: Love Triangles

Greetings, YA-ers! This month, our chat topic is the ever popular Love Triangle. We'll explore the indecisiveness of our beloved characters when it comes to matters of the heart and share ways of making it play out on our pages.

***We will not be critiquing any individual work at this meeting. Feedback sessions are reserved for the last Saturday of the month.***

About the YA Fiction Writers Group:

This group is focused on writers interested in the Young Adult fiction genre. "Young Adult" target audiences typically range from the ages of sixteen years up through the early twenties. In recent years, this market has skyrocketed with the success of bestselling novels such as the Twilight saga from Stephenie Meyer, The Hunger Games series from Suzanne Collins, and The Mortal Instruments series from Cassandra Clare to name a few.

Since this genre is marketed toward the teenaged crowd, there are specific guidelines to consider when writing Young Adult fiction as opposed to more adult focused literature. With this in mind, the focus of our sessions will be to brainstorm the Y/A novel writing process and share ideas for getting started, organizing, character development, story flow, inspiration sparking, editing and formatting, and steps to getting published.

There are TWO PARTS to this group. The first part is our chat session that is held on the second Saturday of the month and consists of a single predetermined topic posted in advance. Anyone is welcome to attend but keep in mind the topics will be YA FICTION based only. The second part of this group is for those members who are serious about their writing and want to share their work. The feedback session meets on the last Saturday of the month and consists of critique of member’s work previously posted to our group’s private forum. Each member of the feedback group will be encouraged to post their new work along with any revisions of older work at the beginning of each month. This is so the other participating members have time to thoroughly read it and become familiar with the characters and story before coming up with valuable feedback for the author when we meet in person.

Feedback Group Forum Rules:

You MUST attend an actual in person chat session before access is granted. This is to determine if this part of the group is the right fit for you.

Once access is granted, you must display active participation in the forum. This means you must submit your work for critique AND provide feedback to the other participating members of the group on a regular basis. Those with access to the forum who do not follow this guideline will be removed and denied access after a month of inactivity. You may still attend and participate in the chat sessions but not the feedback sessions. *This is strictly to protect the unpublished posted work and to be fair to our more active members with a career goal in mind.*

If your goal is to pursue a financially successful career path with the intentions of creating a marketable novel(s) for publishing and want to meet and support others who share determination, come join us!

Running late, I'll try to be there before 1:30. I'm apartment hunting and headed to a showing now.
