JT Ellison: My Journey from Writers Group to Published Author

On Sunday, June 29, at 3:00 pm, JT Ellison will speak to us on her journey from starting out in writers groups to published author.

J.T. Ellison is the New York Times bestselling author of eleven critically acclaimed novels, including The Final Cut with Catherine Coulter, When Shadows FallEdge of Black and A Deeper Darkness. Her work has been published in over twenty countries. Her novel The Cold Room won the ITW Thriller Award for Best Paperback Original and Where All The Dead Lie was a RITA® Nominee for Best Romantic Suspense.

She lives in Nashville with her husband. Visit JTEllison.com for more insight into her wicked imagination, or follow her on Twitter @Thrillerchick or Facebook.com/JTEllison14

We will be meeting at the Green Hills Library.

I will need some people to help me set out chairs at 2:30 pm and some people to help me to put them back at the end of the speaking.

I'm very excited that JT has agreed to talk to us, and I am already planning out the format and some of the questions.

Our goal is to bring speakers and panels to the group once a month.

I will hold the confirmation to 80 people, and create a waiting list. This will serve a way of having a headcount on how many chairs to put out.

JT was very honest in her answers. I found her genuine, freely giving insight on her journey as a writer. I found her story inspiring, allowing us to know that we shouldn't listen to people just because of their credentials. We can work on our writing and become better writers. She also didn't shirk from telling us about the hard work needed to be a writer. She advised the self-published authors work with an editor to make their work better--where traditional publishers used to shoulder that expense, writers who choose to self-publish need to cover the hiring of a good editor. Also, she told us how she started out in writers' groups, much like those who were in attendance.

    I live-tweeted this event @AveryOslo - 40 tweets worth of #writing wisdom from @ThrillerChick there.

In any case, this was a great start. I hope we have more of these.

I was lucky to have been sitting in the front row and I could hear fine; but I think it would be a great idea to use microphones next time.

Great meeting. JT was real, telling us her struggles, her goals etc. We should have more of these meetings: published authors inspiring aspiring authors. Agree with the noise. I was in the 2nd row and had to lean in. The fan was too loud and the speakers weren't loud enough. Simple fix: shut off the fan and have a mic for next time.

I love her message, but had a hard time seeing her. If she could set upon a high stool, we all may have an opportunity to become more involved.

Something higher would definitely be helpful. I think the fan also contributed to difficulty in hearing.

It is encouraging to hear a published writer go through the same struggles I have. I like the same authors as she does, and I appreciate how they helped encourage her. And I learned a few marketing/social media items I didn't before.

Great discussion.... just a little difficult to hear in the back of the room.

I agree. Very informative session, with clear and useful advice. Motivating stories, too.

Great session, lots of good, practical advice from a pro on what it takes to make it in this business.

Hey, guys. I had an emergency arise and I will not be able to make it. I hope to catch you on the next time.

The room holds 100, so come even if you didn't make the deadline to RSVP. We just now have a better idea of how many chairs to set out. If you wish to help set up, we will begin that around 2:30 pm.

Ross, there is plenty of room. I will see you there tomorrow.

I tried to add a guest and is deleted me instead. I am coming with one guest. This is not the easiest website for people who are blind to use.

I can help with the setup.

I tried to attend the authors book signing that was in 2013. However, they posted the event very last minute. Whoa, to those who have ambition and strive with their own personal project. Like to attend events with other Nashville residences that are leaders.
