What we're about

Whether you've never heard of the ancient Chinese healing art of qigong (pronounced chee-gong) and want to find out more or are already well versed in qigong and want to see some new exercises and variations, this group is for you!

Qigong is the ancient Chinese practice of breath and energy, or qi (chee) exercises. Its practice is extremely effective for coping with stress and other chronic issues and both the Mayo Clinic and Harvard Medical School recommend it and its associated martial art, tai chi, for stress relief and chronic health issues.

Specifically, in this class, you will learn a famous set of exercises called the Eight Exercises of Health (Ba Duan Jin or 八段錦), sometimes also known as the Eight Brocades. It is is the most practiced qigong set in the world today.

Qigong is a huge field, with many different breathing and energy cultivation techniques and includes both moving and static exercises. The Ba Duan Jin set you will learn involves moving exercises. You can perform the exercises in a small space, standing or seated, in comfortable clothing. Qigong is excellent for individuals of different abilities.

The qigong movements and breathing you will learn are very simple and require no previous knowledge or special clothing, accommodations, or equipment. The Ba Duan Jin was specifically designed to increase your overall health and longevity with eight simple exercises that take only a few minutes to do each day.

In this workshop, you will learn how qigong came to be and what it can do for your body and mind. You will also learn to breathe in a healthier manner, to benefit your entire body, helping the circulation throughout all your organs.

After we clear away the chairs to the side so that everyone can participate, you will learn the complete Eight Exercises of Health. There are many levels of qigong and even though this set is a very easy to perform, it is extremely powerful and its regular practice has been shown to be life transforming.

The proven benefits of regular qigong practice include decreased stress and anxiety, lowered blood pressure, weight loss, reduced back and knee pain, better sleep, a boost in immune and gastrointestinal function, generally lower pain levels and improved mood and well-being.

We look forward to seeing you there!
