What local wilderness would you like to explore?

San Mateo Canyon Wilderness, where I have been searching for steelhead trout for about ten years. Found 'em too.

Are you interested in easy, moderate, or strenuous programs?

All of the above, but I prefer strenuous and crazy bushwhacking stuff into places nobody else goes, unless they're with me.

Are you interested in plants, wildlife, cultural history, canyons, valleys, foothills, mountains, wetlands, beaches, islands, or everything?

All of the above and 47 other things.

When are you available to participate in tours? (Weekdays, Weekends, Morning, Afternoon, Evening)

Quite a lot, actually. In this economy I am underemployed so I have a good amount of free time, especially during weekdays, when I'm not working.

What is the closest national forest to your home? (Cleveland, Los Padres, Angeles, San Bernardino, etc.)

I live in the Cleveland National Forest, in Silverado Canyon.

Introduction

I'm interested in hiking, climbing, peak bagging, geology, history, archaeology, rocks, photography, writing, dancing, playing guitar, racing vintage cars; not necessarily in that order. A day that contains all of the above is a good day!

What Turquoise M. is saying about this Meetup Group

I've known Joel for years, since his days with the Nature Conservancy. He is one of my favorite people to hike with, knows just about everything about a whole lot of stuff, and will go anywhere. His skills as a naturalist and his ability to identify with and educate any age hiker are unsurpassed. You can't go wrong hiking with Joel. Make a five or ten dollar donation when you hike with him, he runs the entire operation out of his own pocket with little or no grant money or sponsorship of any kind.
