NOTE NEW DATE FOR THIS HIKE DUE TO RAIN FORECAST FOR 9/21
Our very first meetup was a sunset hike on the towpath, starting from Georgetown. I try to do this every year. This saturday let us meet in the waterfront near the embassy, enjoy the newly landscaped waterfront park, walk over the Key bridge with its great views of the Potomac and hike in Roosevelt Island with its woods and wetlands. It is a small island so the hike will be short and we should be back in Georgetown by 7.30pm. We can then get to know each other over dinner in one of the restaurants in Georgetown.
Here is a park service brochure about the island: http://www.nps.gov/this/planyourvisit/upload/TRI-Brochure.pdf
I will send out contact cell number to Yes rsvp's by saturday morning.
Public transportation is best way to get to Georgetown on a weekend evening. It is a short walk from Foggy Bottom or Rosslyn and there are many circulator and metro buses running through M street.
If you were to drive, there are many paid parking lots.
Hope you will join us!
Nature Lovers' Meetup is proud to be sponsored by Clean currents. Check out CleanCurrents.com (http://cleancurrents.com) to see how easy it is to get wind powered electricity. You will get your power and bills from Pepco as before but your payment will fund wind farms.
