This is a joint hike with Sierra Club outings. Donation of $2 for outings program requested. All participants must sign liability waiver. RSVP at
8 mile hike on mostly level and unpaved clay and crushed stone trails in two sections. We will first walk across key bridge and hike in Roosevelt Island, enjoying the morning activities of wetland birds and joining in the Ranger-led tour if possible. Total for this section 3.3 miles. Returning to Georgetown by about 11am, we will hike on the C&O canal towpath to Fletcher's boathouse and return. Total for this section 4.7 miles. Snacks, water and restroom available at Fletcher's but not in Roosevelt Island. Optional lunch around 1.30pm following the hike at a Georgetown restaurant. Meet at 8:30 am in the small Francis Scott Key park with a big flag in the middle at the southeastern corner of M st and Key bridge. The park is a ten to fifteen minute walk from Roslyn metro and also served by buses from all nearby metro stations.
Wear long sleeved shirts and pants or wear insect repellent. Watch out for mosquitoes, poison ivy and ticks.
