See a free screening of Women's Garden Cycles: Faces From the New Farm, a local film chronicling the journey of three women from Washington, D.C. to Montreal and back by bicycle. The women set out to promote local foods, stopping along the way to work at farmers' markets and organic farms. They encountered the "new faces of American farming," visiting rural New England farms and small city gardens. The film speaks to a growing interest to practice responsible farming practices and alternatives to large, monoculture, corporate farms that have taken over America. Following the film, a representative from a local farm will lead a discussion with the audience.
Before the film, optionally join me for dinner at Alladin's Eatery at 6:00. It's a block away from Shirlington Library on the south side of Cambell St. Please indicate in your rsvp if you plan to come for dinner.
(Shirlington can be easily reached by bus and bicycle. The W&OD Trail goes through Shirlington. Buses go to the Pentagon metro in about 6-8 minutes and also go to Ballston, which takes longer.)http://www.meetup.com/nature-lovers/calendar/11186653/
