NE ATC+ October 2014 Meetup: UPDATED with new info!

  • Oct 18, 2014 · 1:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us for our October  Meetup!

1. "Can I interest you in..."
2.  Fortunes (or fortune cookies)
3. ATCs made with punches (punched-out designs)

...and a special FOURTH swap: Halloween!

Also, if you're participating in the special retreat swap (see details on Message Board), but not attending the retreat, you may drop your cards at this Meetup.

SPECIAL DEMO: Rozsi has graciously agreed to lead us in a demo for making your own stencils and stamps--even if you think you can't draw. If you have a glue gun and glue sticks (the kind that go into glue guns, that is), please bring them. We could use a few extension cords, too. If you don't have these items, don't worry, we'll have some to share.

DO-IT-YOURSELF ACTIVITY: "Found Poetry:" We will provide materials for this activity, including ephemera and pages torn from books with enough for everyone to make four cards for next month's swap.

What's found poetry? It's when you cut words or phrases from printed text and re-form them into your own poetry (doesn't have to rhyme!). Another way to do found poetry is to circle or otherwise highlight words on a single page that will fit onto an ATC and to block out/black out other words to create a poem or statement. It's easy and the results are often lots of fun. You're welcome to work on your cards at the Meetup or take them home to play.

WHAT OTHER SUPPLIES SHOULD I BRING? There's a suggested list in "All About the NE ATC+ Meetup" (also at the top of the Message Board). But even if you show up empty-handed, that's fine--we have loaner tools.

POTLUCK LUNCH: You're invited, but certainly not required, to bring food or drink for our potluck lunch, or to just bring your own lunch. No need to sign up; bring whatever you like.

FREE STUFF/SALE ITEMS: You're welcome to bring items to give away or sell to other Meetup members onsite. Just remember to remove anything that doesn't get picked up or sold--we can't leave anything behind.

COST: $10, regardless of when you arrive or depart; it covers our costs for the day. Sorry, no partial payments or IOUs; people have been doing this a lot lately and then never paying the difference. Cash is preferred; small bills are greatly appreciated (there are ATMs and stores nearby). If payment is a hardship, please let the organizer now--we can work it out.

RSVPs: Please RSVP "yes" to attend. That way, we'll have an approximate headcount--and you'll receive all notifications about the Meetup! If your plans change, please change your RSVP to "no" so we'll know not to expect you--and so that someone else can attend in your place. NEW POLICY: If you cancel the day of the Meetup, you'll need to pay the $10 fee anyway to help us cover the costs for the day.

LAST-MINUTE UPDATES: Please check your email in box and the website before leaving for the Meetup. That way, in the unlikely event that we need to cancel due to bad weather or any other reason, you'll be sure to get the news.

Hope to see you there!

I am not going to be able to make it today. Too much to do for my daughter's birthday party tomorrow. Have fun.

Hi folks! I need a ride to the meet up. I lost my car key. I'm off route 27 in Natick; it's on your way if you come south on 27 but it's not far out of your way if you're heading north. my phone is[masked]-4215. Thanks!

Hey, Rozsi! I picked up some glue sticks today, but not sure if I have the glue gun to go with...Only $2.79 at ACMoore, so if you need another I can pick one up...will also bring paper and a couple of sprays...

Yes, please anyone who has a glue gun bring it along. Also, if you have a craft sheet, the non-sticky kind that Tim Holtz uses, that would be very helpful, too. Thanks!

Karen, we are already doing a special Halloween swap for this retreat. It's posted on the Message Board, but I neglected to list it here -- so thanks for the reminder. If you'd like to oversee this special swap, as you have in the past, it is yours!

Can I interest anyone in an unscheduled Hallowe'en swap??

    October 2, 2014

  • Anne

Some examples are: "Can I interest you in...a cocktail?" (That is how this originated, actually.) "Can I interest you in...a slightly used ATC?" "Can I interest you in...a pancake breakfast?" The fill-in-the-blank part can be anything you like--and rampant creativity is encouraged.

    OK thank you, Kate.

This is open to artist interpretation. You determine what the answer is to the incomplete question.

Hi - regarding the themes for October, could you elaborate on 'can I interest you ....'
    Thank you! Gaby
