Yardley German Stammtisch

  • Jul 30, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • Art's Place

Netzwerk Philadelphia's Yardley Stammtisch unites German speakers - native, non-native and students - every other Wednesday at a downtown location. Be sure to check the website before attending to know where to go.

Stammtisch is a very informal event: people come and go when they wish. If you arrive and no one is there, you may just be the first person to arrive. Let the staff know and they will set up the Stammtisch table for you. If we are meeting at Vince's Pizza, it is BYOB so feel free.

There is no event fee - each participant pays for his or her own food and beverages. Please be courteous to our hosts and at least purchase a drink and/or small appetizer. Many Stammtischers order dinner as well, so feel free to come with an appetite. Be sure to tip generously as a "thank you" for hosting us every other week.

The amerikanische "Du" rule is always in effect - das heisst everyone here is on a first name basis, and may be addressed as "Du" rather than as "Sie." This is to facilitate informal conversation and to eliminate anxieties and misunderstandings that can arise when native and non-native speakers converse in German in an American social setting.

If you have trouble locating the group, please call Tom at zwei eins fuenf - drei zwei sieben - vier eins acht acht :)

Any way we can keep the Yardley Stammtisch going? I have always wanted to join in, but I usually find the time inconvenient as I must get up very early the following morning for work. I'm wondering if others might feel the same. If we can't keep the Wed. night Stammtisch going, I would propose either a Sunday brunch option or a Friday evening (even just once a month). Thoughts? Unfortunately, I am unable to attend tomorrow as I have out-of-town guests.

Kristin, yes, I would be interested in making sure the group can continue to meet. I am from the center city stammtisch group (along with Mark Johnson) and we recently moved to the Trenton area, so will be active in the Yardly Meetup now. I am hoping to discuss options tomorrow night, and I will keep the group posted.
