What we’re about

"Neurodivergent" is a term used since the late 90's to indicate someone who is not "neurotypical." Though the meaning has blurred, it was originally used by Autistic activists to indicate a brain that was not "typical," but was necessarily "mentally ill" either. So it is most often used to encompass neuro-types that fall under the "neurodevelopmental" diagnoses -- especially Autism and ADHD.
A person who identifies as "neurodivergent" typically still sees their diagnosis as a disability, but also as part of their identity. Most of us DO NOT see it as an illness in need of a cure.
One of the greatest challenges faced by all neurodivergent people is the challenge of meeting people and building community. The goal of this group is to help ADHD and Autistic adults meet each other!
This is not a therapy group. This is not a "skills" class. Attempts will be made to accommodate people when possible, but there is no system in place to meet the support needs of group members. Please keep this in mind if you are planning to attend.
This group is for Neurodivergent people ONLY. Self-diagnosis is totally ok, but this is not a group for Autism parents. This is not a group for curious psych students.
More than anything, this group is for the Autistic/ADHD adult who -- through sheer force of will -- has more or less made it through life but is just now starting to explore what their diagnosis really means. Come explore that with people who can relate!
