It's been a long time since our last debate but I am happy to announce that we have a new committee in place and will be holding the first of hopefully many events on September 30th at the Shooting Star pub near Liverpool St.
The topic will focus on one of the most debated issues in economics: whether privitisation of state-owned enterprises is a more efficient and profitable business model? The recent plans by the UK government to float the Royal Mail, one of the last few remaining state monopolies to go private, is a case we will be looking at.
We are looking for two speakers to open the debate - one defending the motion and the other speaking against the motion. Each will have 10 minutes to make their case before opening the debate to the floor, followed by a pint upstairs.
As we are setting up a new committee we would also like to hear from you and better understand how we can tailor these events to suit your interests. We will have a brief discussion at the start of the event to gather your views.
Look forward to seeing you then!
