Welcome to HacktoberFest! It's an annual event put on by the folks at DigitalOcean (and various partner companies) aimed at getting folks involved in open source software development.
Whether you're brand new to development or a seasoned pro, we would love to have you come hang out for a night.
We're going to have someone giving a talk on Git and open source software, we'll teach everyone how to submit their very first pull request (so they can get working on earning HacktoberFest swag!), and then we'll all hack together on a new open source IO project!
We have a blank slate repo we're calling FreeSpace (https://github.com/newhavenio/FreeSpace) that is starting it's life as a single `index.html` file. We'll let you all run wild with that over the course of the month and see what we end up with.
The project will have its own channel (#freespace) in our NewHavenIO Slack, so that communication and collaboration can happen 24/7.
Can't wait to see y'all at the event and working on FOSS projects!
Please read our Events Code of Conduct (https://do.co/hacktoberconduct) before attending. Happy Hacking!
