What we're about
Calling all a cappella fans! Are you a man that likes to sing? Come make some noise with us any Tuesday night starting at 7:00pm. Open rehearsals for anyone to watch and men of all ages to participate. We begin with breathing, vocal warm ups, and singing techniques. Then we sing from our rep and learn new songs. Sheet music provided for all guests. Free refreshments and a welcoming spirit!
The New Tradition Chorus is an a cappella chorus for Chicago-area men of all ages who enjoy getting together to ring chords, learn to improve their singing abilities, perform for all types of audiences, and just socialize to share the joys of good fellowship in harmony. Our members participate mainly in four types of activities . . .
The main purpose of the New Tradition Chorus is to get out and sing for our community. We sing at annual shows, and a number of community events. We also perform Singing Valentines around Valentines Day. We are available to sing at your next function or event.
In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of a cappella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals and a very important component of the chorus experience. A couple of times a year, we will get coaching from a visiting master in our style of singing, where we learn many valuable tricks of the trade.
Many New Tradition members form their own vocal quartets in addition to singing with the chorus. We are home to a number of wonderful quartets, and we are very proud of them!
The New Tradition Chorus belongs to the Northbrook Chapter of the international Barbershop Harmony Society, a nonprofit organization of approximately 25,000 members in choruses and quartets worldwide. It is the world's largest men's singing organization. The Society's headquarters is in Nashville, TN.
