Weather Forecast for this coming weekend looks favourable for a hike at this altitude . No certainty at mo I can make it myself however am confident there are others who will step up and show leadership and take care to look out for everyone if I am not there

A SPORTIVE little hike of some 6.5 hrs, hence plan to leave start point at 9.30am a climb .descent of of 910 mtr Caractéristiques - Gilette 37 km de la côte.

Here is the link to map and directions

http://www.randoxygene.org/pge/rand …

Approx driving time from Nice 45 mins Monaco 1 hr - Leaving sharp appointed time. Car share as usual, if you need a lift connect with me via mobile[masked] better still, respond by phone directly with drivers offering.

Conditions can change quickly so wear layers and come with picnic drinks

The Mont Lion ( 1049 m) , including former limestone overcome more recent land was so compressed that it is bent and broken, during the formation of the Alps, the Tertiary , in the effect of North-South outbreaks . These folds, marked by very places are inlaid with many apparent fossils ( molluscs , corals, nummulites ... ) . This hike varied profile alternating ascending and descending runs at the foot of rocky outcrops head Catbonnière , mountain lion and Conchas . Departure is from the church square Tourette -du -Château whose story deserves a little anecdote : the first church was destroyed in the seventeenth century , then rebuilt . 1930 , lightning struck the tower , leaving its truncated architecture. In 1990 , thanks to a "favorite " of dairy and Swiss patrons Nice , bell tower and the building were completely renovated in the form and the original colors . route

Take a look on the proposed page. Corina has suggested Le Grand Mont this Sunday. Why not sign up and organise transport?
Unfortunately I shall be off at sea and not available for a few weeks. Have fun everyone.

Marjie, what about posting "Le Grand Mont" for instance, (I think it is not very difficult) for next sunday?
Or maybe you have got another idea -in which case we could do that one in a fortnight.
    Thanks, see you soon!

Great hike :) Thank you for a great Sunday ! For next weekend , as Emma was saying we were discussing to do one of the following: Tour du Roc d'Orméa-13.5 km , 6 h +1100m (http://www.randoxygene.org/pge/rando_pe/affiche_rando.php?rubrique=1&zone=3&rando=8&current=pc-28&ct=pc# ) or Le Grand Mont 7.8 km, 5 h ,+780 (http://www.randoxygene.org/pge/rando_pe/affiche_rando.php?rubrique=1&zone=3&rando=10&current=pc-28&ct=pc)

For the other option- Les hameaux d'Illonse i saw that its closed partially (partiellement fermé entre les balises 212 et 213 )..so maybe we can try it when then conditions are better.

It was a pleasure to see the group and I am looking forward another long hike like this one. Some people suggested "Tour du roc d'Orméa" and "Le Grand Mont". I would add "Les hameaux d'Illonse".

Nice to see everyone and talk today. Thanks to you all.

The flowers were Blackthorn (white flowers before the leaves), Primrose (yellow, green leaves, close to the ground), Violets, Wood Anemone (white stars, in the wood!), the herbs with little purple flowers were Thyme (I wasn't sure before). I also spotted a Cowslip at one point, and of course there were plenty of Orchids, Olive trees and the Cherry (cerise) blossom.
